English Language GCSE extended writing: 'Countryside scene' themed narrative writing exam practice pack

Writing an articulate and vivid descriptive composition based on a vivid opening line or a picture is a core requirement for GCSE and IGCSe English Language. How do we improve our skills? Improve planning? Vary vocabulary? Access good sample responses? This is a great and varied pack for GCSE or IGCSE preparation which helps students add colour and variety to their compositions.

Included in this pack are:

  • A useful PowerPoint film to remind students of the differences between narrative and descriptive writing and the key skills they need to excel in it.?
  • A question paper with an accompanying picture students need to include in their story, plus supporting tips and suggestions to help students break down the task.
  • A suggested plan for a complex image, suggesting which areas to focus on and incorporate into the story.
  • A sample student response to the narrative writing task, followed by a detailed list of points explaining why the sample response scored highly. Detailed references are made to specific creative writing techniques and features which examiners hope to see in top band work.
